PRESS RELEASE
Miramar, FL – (July 21, 2009) – Wireless Maritime
Services (WMS), the world leader in providing cellular service to
the cruise line and ferry industry, announced today that they have
signed a contract to provide cellular at sea wireless service to
guests and crew members on Windstar Cruises’ Wind Surf cruise ship.
WMS service allows Wind Surf’s guests and crew members to use their
cell phones while the ship is at sea. Connectivity is activated when
the ship leaves port and turned off when in range of land-based
providers. WMS provides uninterrupted service to guests and crew so
they can stay in touch with family, friends or business associates
back home. Guests and crew can make and receive calls, send text
messages and surf the internet at rates similar to roaming
internationally.
“In this day and age being able to communicate at any time, whether
using voice, data, or text messaging, is very important to our
guests,” according to Captain Nico Corbijn, Executive Vice President
– Fleet Operations for Windstar Cruises. “WMS provides a service
unsurpassed in the telecommunication industry which allows our
guests to use their own mobile communication devices onboard, even
when the vessel is miles from land!”
“It’s truly a pleasure to be able to grow the depth and breadth of
our relationship with Windstar Cruises,” said Jim McKenna, Vice
President of Customer Support and Product Development for WMS. “In
this competitive environment, we strive to deliver the best products
and services to our customers, and this agreement is an indication
of the value we bring to cruise line and ferry passengers and crew.
Windstar is a terrific company and we are very proud to have them as
our customer.”
